Command & Conquer: Generals 2
Command & Conquer is one of real-time strategy's defining series. Westwood Studios' line-up of brutal build-and-destroy warfare games has spent nearly two decades as one of PC gaming's most beloved franchises.
It's had its ups and downs, but on the whole, C&C has been a source of military tactical inspiration and multiplayer multiple-unit mayhem for a generation of armchair generals.
In the near future, world leaders are mere seconds from signing a global treaty and bringing an end to war as we know it when a devastating terrorist attack rips through the peace conference, killing all in attendance. In a world left with no politicians, diplomats, or activists, only the Generals remain. It's up to you to assume their roles, command their forces, and put an end to global terrorism once and for all in Command & Conquer: Generals 2.
In late 2011 EA announced C&C Generals 2, and showed it had learned from the hard lessons of the previous entry. In development at BioWare Victory (really a spinoff of the existing Command & Conquer team that was at EALA), the goal of the project is to bring the storytelling chops of BioWare to the traditional C&C design format in a PC-exclusive game.
That combination sat well with fans, and likely represents a sound trajectory for the series. That a 2013 game can look back to its 18- year-old predecessor for most of its inspiration, and be celebrated for it, tells the story: even after many years of sequels, revisions, and copycats, Westwood's original formula remains timeless.
